Heatwave!

Well, what passes for a heat wave in England: “an average threshold temperature is 30 °C by day and 15 °C overnight” according to the Met Office: Heat-Health Watch.

So, I’ll be following HOWTO not melt – keeping cool at midsummer again. Anyone got any new tips or tricks for 2009?

Finally, one of TTLLP’s full-timers is away this week, so enquiries may get saved and answered in batches. If it’s urgent, please put “urgent” in the subject line of an email.

Last weekend I was in the Pyrenees, and the temperature up there was well over 30°C. I guess all it takes is training. Spend a summer around the Spanish east coast and you’ll never think 30°C is too bad. ;)

Yes, I don’t think 30 is really hot, but English houses have been built for basic warmth (and not even a very high standard of that) for almost 40 years, so it takes a bit of active management to keep them cool. I’ve insulated my building pretty well, but it still overheats quite easily in summer if you’re not managing it.

And now I get one of our suppliers advertising portable air conditioners. Arrrrrrrrrrrgh!

Right, València is similar, but on the opposite case. Houses are not prepared for the four of five weeks of real cold during winter, and it shows. When there’s a coldwave, it freezes here. [edited for language by site admin]
